The Czech Republic is making strides toward democracy and is one of three Eastern European countries with business ties to the West. Under Communism, Western gift giving in Czechoslovakia was simple: visitors brought whatever was in short supply. Today, most Czechs easily can find want they want, so gift giving takes more thought.
